Her face glowed with pride, happiness when the teacher announced that she passed the examination with flying colours.

Her eyes twinkled merrily.

She beamed with pride / happiness.

She gave us a radiant smile.

Her joy / happiness knew no bounds.

She was engulfed by clouds of delight/ sheer happiness.

She was as happy as a lark.

He burst into fits of laughter.

The winner jumped for joy.

Her eyes glittered with tears of joy.

A wide smile flickered across her face.

She broke into a smile, flashing her pearly white teeth.

They broke out into peals of laughter.

A smile spread over his face.

 They were saturated with happiness.

He was smiling like a contented old man.

He poured out his gratitude profusely.

He was all smiles when he saw the results.

They roared with laughter on hearing the joke.

She kept a straight face but inside she was giggling like mad.

Our hearts were full of joy when we heard the good news.

Anxiety

My mouth became very dry.

A KIND ACT

"Grrrrrrrrrrr. . ." I blushed a deep shade of red and covered my growling stomach instinctively as I made a quick sweep around the classroom. No one heard my cry of hunger. "Whew!" I sighed with relief under my breath and wished the lesson would be over. Looking at my watch, I jumped with joy. Two more minutes! Mrs. Wong's monotonous teachings suddenly became music to my ears.

"Alright, class, you may be dismissed!" Mrs. Wong ended her teachings just as the shrill bell signaled the end of the lesson but the start of recess. Chairs scraped loudly across the hard ground, and pens clattered noisily on the tables. I haphazardly assembled my desk and dashed out of the classroom. I had already contemplated what to order, and I wanted to eat NOW! "Out of my way!" I playfully shoved my classmates as I inched my way to the canteen.

One could smell the tantalizing aroma of the wide diversity of mouth-watering food wafting all over the perimeter of the canteen. I took a deep breath, and my stomach rumbled uncontrollably once more. As if on cue, my legs subconsciously walked me over to my all-time favorite stall – wanton noodles. I tapped my legs impatiently as I waited for my turn.

"Auntie Ling, one bowl of wanton noodles, more soup!" I reached into my pocket instinctively, as usual, to fish for my wallet. To my utmost horror, there was none. My face turned pale with worry, and my heart rate palpitated anxiously with each breath. I recalled that I had forgotten to bring my wallet along with me in my rush to head for school that morning! I face-palmed myself and was utterly upset over my carelessness.

My face grew redder with embarrassment as a few students in the queue were mumbling among themselves, whispering, and pointing at me. I was about to cancel my order and runoff, when I heard a voice behind me. "Hello Auntie, I will pay for my friend, together with my order." I spun around, and the kind soul was Narvesh, my class's new student.

"Hmm…" I was at a loss of words when Narvesh pressed the cash into Auntie's hands, took the tray with two bowls of noodles, and shooed me to find a place to sit.

I was touched deeply by the turn of events. I thanked Narvesh profusely, and as we conversed while having our meals, I realized that we had a lot more in common. We had an enjoyable time over recess that day. Who knows a random act of kindness would garner a friend in exchange?
