ENGLISH COMPREHENSION

COMPREHENSION TECHNIQUES #1

Mr. Green and the Taxi Ride

Mr. Green was an elderly man who lived with his daughter, Lisa, and her husband. Every afternoon, he enjoyed sitting on a bench in the town square, watching people pass by and feeding the pigeons. At 4 o’clock, he would walk home for tea.

One day, at 3:30, Lisa heard a car pulling up outside the house. When she opened the door, she was surprised to see a taxi driver helping her father out of the car.

“Your father got into my taxi and asked me to take him home,” the driver explained. “But when I asked for his address, he couldn’t remember it! So, I drove him around town until he recognized something familiar.”

Lisa thanked the driver and then turned to her father. “Dad, you’ve lived in this town for 40 years. How could you forget your own address?”

Mr. Green chuckled and said, “I didn’t exactly forget. I just didn’t feel like walking home today!”
