2025 PSLE English Compo Reflection
“Being Thankful” – The Theme That Keeps Giving
Hot off the press!
A big shoutout to my incredible network of parents and students who have been flooding my handphone with updates after today’s PSLE English Paper 1. The theme? “Being Thankful.” And guess what? Yes, the sunflower made a surprise appearance! It’s been spotted in my AL1 Compo (read further) and it found its way into the actual PSLE too.
Do I predict topics?
Not at all. What I do is prepare my students with a broad range of versatile themes, structured plot flows, and visual prompts—so that no matter what appears, they can adapt. Preparation isn't about guessing the exact question. It's about being composition-ready.

Using our general scaffold (Introduction → Build-up → Problem → Climax → Conclusion), I developed three humorous, heartfelt 15-sentence storylines that explored kindness, gratitude, and good intentions.
Why These Stories Matter
These stories weren’t just made for PSLE. They were nurtured through months of training in my AL Compo, MAD June, and PSLE Finale workshops.
By exposing students to a “treasure trove” of adaptable plots, we build a mental toolbox they can draw from on exam day—just like one parent shared:
“Her child used my storyline from my AL1 Compo book for his PSLE composition and came back happy!"
I honestly forgot this flower example was in my book until that parent sent me a screenshot. It’s moments like this that keep me going.

Final Thoughts
