After analysing the SBC questions from 2012–2025, clear patterns emerge. Most questions fall into recurring categories. The table below serves as a quick-reference guide for teachers and students.

Recurring Question Types:

These question types have appeared repeatedly and should be practiced:

  1. Would you be interested in...? Why or why not?
  2. Do you think...? Why/Why not?
  3. Tell us about a time when...
  4. Would you prefer...? Why?
  5. What would you do if...?
  6. How can people/students/schools...?
  7. Do you usually...? Why?
  8. What do you like about...?
  9. How should people behave...?
  10. Why is it important to...?

Likely themes include:

  • Community and neighbourliness
  • Public spaces and shared facilities
  • Technology and AI
  • Environmental sustainability
  • Healthy lifestyles
  • Appreciation and empathy
  • Learning habits and resilience
  • Volunteerism and social responsibility

These strongly support my P.E.G framework:

  • P – Predict what is happening.
  • E – Engage by giving opinions and reasons.
  • G – Give personal experiences, examples, or reflections.

Conclusion:

The analysis of PSLE English SBC questions from 2012 to 2025 shows that although the pictures and themes vary, the question types are highly predictable. Common themes such as school life, community, values, and personal experiences appear repeatedly.

Therefore, instead of memorising answers, students should focus on mastering common question types and building a bank of personal experiences and examples.

By applying my P.E.G framework (Predict, Engage, Give), students can respond confidently and naturally to any SBC topic.
