Another kind feedback from a mummy. Glad I am able to make her child happy after a class. Engaging a child is the first step towards success, ie, getting them to take ownership of their learning. Hope to help her score in her Science.

Ooooooooobleck
Thanks to a book ‘Bartholomew And The Oobleck’ by Dr Seuss, the word oobleck was coined and used loosely today by educators, who use this term to teach matter. Oobleck is a cross between solid and liquid, and when different pressure is applied, the texture and consistency change accordingly. My students always enjoy this activity,… Continue reading Ooooooooobleck
Walking Water
Did a simple experiment to prove that xylem tubes in a plant takes in water. Using simple every day tools like kitchen towels, food colouring, plastic cups and viola! This takes time. So I did this at the beginning of the lesson so the kitchen towels had time to ‘walk’. My students were amazed at… Continue reading Walking Water
Terrarium – water cycle
My mission is to make a DIY terrarium over the holidays. It’s such a simple experiment to demonstrate the water cycle. What I need to get are clear glass bottles first. Time for shopping! From the pictures, condensation is clearly shown and it creates a lovely effect as a whole. Can’t wait to do with… Continue reading Terrarium – water cycle
Prince Of Mindmaps
Glad my student loves to draw mindmaps and he’s good at them! This lesson was on Science revision for the mid year exam. Giving children some ownership and responsibilities help them to be more confident and willing to learn from me. In this simple role reversal lesson, he proudly rattled on the topics he had… Continue reading Prince Of Mindmaps
Learning Via News
I love using news articles to teach English. They are just so versatile to use and play around with. Need to use different methods to get my teaching message across though. As he’s dyslexic, I’m pretty impressed he is able to read most of the texts. Understanding the contents can come later. Achievement unlocked! He… Continue reading Learning Via News
Rome Is Not Built In A Day
What I’m going to write is solely on my own opinion and I make my stand as I have seen what I teach works through the years. I was sad that a parent dropped me like a hot potato after the 2nd lesson. Not sad about the ‘potato’ part, but sad that she had no… Continue reading Rome Is Not Built In A Day
By Leaps & Bounds
One of my P6 boys asked me to guess his compo marks and he looked very serious when he asked me. He’s usually the joker in class and when he said he was serious, it must be. So I made a guess. Each guess took me to guess higher till I got it. Well, I… Continue reading By Leaps & Bounds
Post Exam Activities
Did English writing using news articles and made the lesson less mundane after exams. I love using news to teach writing but need to encourage my charges to be involved. They do not have the habit of reading newspapers. My p6 boy had fun, although he complained about the messy black ink from the print.
