P1-2 English /Sports Week Sept / Sports Craft Writing

Time to get sporty! With the lingering haze over this period, it is a good reminder for us that we also need to exercise to keep ourselves fit and healthy. Hence, our craft for our Lower Primary students is all about sports! We showed an introductory video about the different types of sports played all over the world. It was an eye-opener for our students, as they did not know such sports exist! It is a good learning experience for them. After viewing, they created a story about sports and exercise, which they had to write out eventually. Last but not least, the highlight – craft time!

PSLE English Descriptive Phrases Fast Track

With the 2019 English PSLE English Paper 1 just days away, your child may be too overwhelmed and overloaded. Now, it is the time to do away with heavy teaching, and just focusing on revising light.

For writing, our stand is always to include 3-4 descriptive phrases per paragraph, to add spice to writing. A quick way is to remember a few on hand, and apply the phrases selectively and appropriately.

Attached is a 4 page description list of emotions and weather. It is definitely not exhaustive, but just enough for a quick revision and recap.

Hope this helps!

Lower Primary / Hazy Sept 2019 / Fan Craft Writing

Haze, Haze, Go Away!

We did an awareness of what the haze can do to us and how to safeguard and protect ourselves. Our students are also aware of what haze is about and can rattle off some of the causes for that. Hence, it is appropriate for us to have a hands on about the hazy situation in Singapore. We chose the craft to symbolize something blowing the haze away! We further encouraged our students to draw a poster about what they know about haze on the back of the craft, and their interpretation says it all – no one likes the haze.

P5 Science / Sept Holiday 2019 / Sowing Seeds, Agents Of Pollinators

Another round of fun for our P5s! With the same materials, we align that to learning about the Plant Reproduction. We got them to sow seeds and observe the growth over the week. We showed videos for them to recap about plant reproduction and revisited certain key words for them to remember. The class got excited when we poured a big packet of snacks in the middle of where our students sat. With the edible snacks, we got them to do a role play of them being the agents of pollinators and the snacks being the pollen grains. They were instructed to pick up the “pollen grains”, pop them into their mouths, and used the crumbs from their fingers to “pollinate” the flowers that they had drawn. And guess what, our class gladly did so! It was the survival of the fittest where they had to jostle one another for more “pollen grains”! We had much fun as much as they did!

P3-4 Science / Sept Holiday 2019 / Sowing Seeds

We love hands on, and an effective way to engage students is by giving them something tangible to touch and observe. We got them to sow seeds and they were of course, excited. We did some lessons on the topic of Plant Parts before getting their hands dirty – pouring the soil, watering the soil to get the moist texture, spreading the seeds, covering the seeds with the soil and doing the final touches. We reminded them to water their seeds and observe what would happen.

P3-4 English / Sept Holiday 2019 / Fun With Similes & Metaphors

English lessons can be fun too! As our focus is on creative writing, we picked the topic on “Similes & Metaphors” and turned it into a game of matching. We mixed the meaning and got our students to pair them correctly. They had fun guessing and could get most of them correct. Children indeed love some challenges to spark their lives a little. We got them to spin silly and funny stories too. Alas, time and tide waits for no man, and we could only complete half of what we wanted to do with the class. Nevertheless, our students did well!

P1-2 English / Sept Holidays 2019 / Visor Craft Writing

With the Sept Holidays, we need to relax and recharge ourselves! Our students were in the mood for the holidays too! We went through on how they were going to spend their holidays, created a unique story for each of our students, and they got to complete their favourite part of lesson – craft-ing (a term coined by our lovely students)! Glad they loved their visors!

P1-2 English / 3 Sept 2019 / Tuesday / Mooncake Festival Craft Writing

Who loves eating mooncakes? We sure do! So do our students! Our students were excited to see the colourful lanterns dotting the floor when they came in. We did a short history on how the Mid Autumn came about and discussed the festive mood with our students. After going through a writing about the festival, we got them to write out their story first, before doing the craft, as that would take more time to complete. They were unable to complete their crafts, but we were satisfied with what they did, considering the limited time. Hope our students enjoy their Mid-Autumn Festival!
