Children who are transitioning to p1, needs to be familiarised with what is expected in primary one, so the stress level can be greatly reduced. For my k2 students, my focus is on beefing them up with reading and writing skills, as well as oral skills, to cope the sudden change from kindy to primary.
Hence for S, I will need some time to keep her confidence level up and get her to be used to reading, writing and speaking.

Again, I went through some cards, read the sentences with her and got her to read and draw. Drawing makes connections to what the sentences are, and it helps her to make sense of what she is learning. Mission accomplished!
As for her jie jie, F, I upped the challenge to a notch and she took it up gamely. I’m really proud of her work done at home and she quipped she took under an hour to complete. Her ideas are fantastic. There were glaring mistakes in terms of spelling etc, but I don’t grade that. I see beyond that. My teacher once told me to encourage writing creatively, there mustn’t be too many penalised mistakes, that will be a deterrent for most students. Of course, when it comes to the exam crunch, I will definitely need to mark and grade, as that will be needed as part of the final results. It’s just the process that we can close an eye to when students write.

Today’s challenge was to pick 12 sets of 3 random pictures and craft them into mini stories. Within 1.5h, F managed to brainstorm almost all and that was really a great feat! She quickly jotted down the template on the wall and got right down to work.

Snapped her work in progress as the girls stopped for a short break- so hungry they said!
Time flew and lesson was over before they knew it. Great job, girls!
